I hope to have my own Television show very soon: Olufeko Gloria OAP

Ola Entertainment Blog met with miss Olufeko Gloria, an on air personality in an online interview and discussed the problems facing the Nigeria media system. The African Church Model College Alumnus spoke on how she wished the nigerain media system is like the way it used to be

Ola Entertainment Blog: Good afternoon. This is ola entertainment blog. Can i meet you

Olufeko Gloria: My name is Gloria Olufeko
A graduate of English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, I hail from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, I’m the first of 3 children and the only girl, I’m a young, passionate and hardworking lady , at least people tell me that a lot😄. I a MC, Radio Presenter, Voice Over Artist, soon to be Youtuber and Diction Coach. Like in short, everything that has to do with the use of the voice is what I do. Most importantly, I love God with all of me

Ola Entertainment Blog: What motivates you to go higher in your career

Olufeko Gloria: My Passion. My passion is my drive. I love purposeful talking. I love being heard
I love the fact that people can get encouragement and life by just listening to me speak
This alone is enough motivation at least for me😁
Sometimes when I look back at where I’m coming from and how hard I’ve fought to be here ( I’m not there yet thought) I can only say my passion for media is what has been my greatest motivation
Others are my role models
They motivate me!!!

Ola Entertainment Blog: Which radio station do you work for?

Olufeko Gloria: None for now. Still volunteering at sample radio stations
Going into media full time very soon

Ola Entertainment Blog: So you fancy working as an on air personality?

 Olufeko Gloria: Fancy ke
I am a radio presenter. That’s my passion. That’s my place of happiness. Hand me a studio mic and you see the excited side of me🤣🤣

Ola Entertainment Blog: Pros and cons in the profession?

Olufeko Gloria: Wow this question is a bit difficult
(Laughs)
I’ll try to answer it
Pros
Well you know are the face of the society
You are the voice of the people to the government and vice versa
That’s one major benefit
Then
There’s really no “plenty money” in media so to say but you become famous with time especially if you’ve mastered your craft and this can in return bring you fame through endorsement deals and all which is pretty cool too
Then above all you get to touch lives in ways you cannot imagine
This for me is the major benefit I derive from being in the media industry I tell you

 Olufeko Gloria: Okay the Cons
Well I won’t call it Cons
Rather I will call it things to look out for that might want to water down your interest in media
First is
Undue pressure
Well I feel this is a con in every industry
I mean you can feel you’re lagging behind when you haven’t secured the deal and your colleagues have
You haven’t bought the car and your colleagues have
You know fame brings you to spotlight and you feel pressured to want to do more than your ability or just so you can please your fans
That’s a major con in the job for me
Also getting started can be really uneasy
I remember when I just started this journey like “fresh fresh”🤣 I mean o because I’m still just starting Abeg
It wasn’t easy and it’s still not easy
I come up with content and I’m afraid it won’t get as much recognition as it should I tell you
But that’s where the passion comes in
Even when everything seeks gloomy, your passion for the job keeps you going
Please don’t go into media if you have no passion for it
I beg you because you will chicken out when the pressure comes

Ola Entertainment Blog: What bothers you about the Nigerian media system?

Olufeko Gloria: Hmmmmmnnnnnn
We’ve lost our real essence
What I mean is those who deserve the recognition are no longer getting it
I grew up watching Larry King, Adora Oleh, Cyril Stober and a host of other broadcasters and how they were so professional in their approach to journalism.
It aches to know that we hardly see that level of professionalism these days
The purpose of the media is to inform, educate and entertain but what do we hear on Radio and  TV these days?
A bunch of highly unprofessional individuals mounting up the consoles and appearing before our TV screens
Many of these so called presenters don’t rehearse before going on air
They don’t prepare thoroughly for their programs then they dish out only God knows what
After then they are the same people who get the awards
It only bothers me the stage we are in the Nigerian media system

Ola Entertainment Blog: How do you think these problems can be solved

Olufeko Gloria: I know many will say times have changed and things have evolved but can we not forget how we started?
Can we go back to the drawing board and see where we’ve missed it?
Let’s do things right
As a presenter don’t go on air if you haven’t rehearsed well
Read up, be ready before mounting the consule or appearing before the screens
Know the not-to-be-broadcast rules and stick by it
It all depends on our readiness to make a change
Some things will always matter irrespective of the change in times!!!!

Ola Entertainment Blog: How come you studied English in school and you're into let say journalism

Olufeko Gloria: Hmmmmn my dear it’s a long story o
But we are here finally ba
From my secondary school days I had known what I wanted and what I wanted to become
So I took the  utme to study Mass Communication at the University of Lagos but I wasn’t granted admission
So after seeking advice, I decided to read English Langauge as my first degree then study
Masscommunication and Journalosm as my second degree  known as Masters so that is the story behind this🤣

Ola Entertainment Blog: Did u start radio presenting in school

Olufeko Gloria: Yes from my 100 level days

Ola Entertainment Blog: Were your parents in support of the steps you took

Olufeko Gloria: Yes they completely were in support. My parents have been my number 1 fan right from school
They still listen to me on the radio till date

Ola Entertainment Blog: Any plans on having your own television show in future

Olufeko Gloria: Absolutely. One day I will own my TV show
I’ve always said that to myself
I’m working on it though it’s not easy you know getting the support and all but with hard work and consistency ill own my TV show
Just watch out, coming to a TV screen near you

Ola Entertainment Blog: Which Radio station are u working for or is it free Lance

Olufeko Gloria: None for now. But soon and very soon I’m on it

Ola Entertainment Blog: Anything that will make you happy right now??

Olufeko Gloria: Yes o. Going back to radio. I miss radio so much
It’s like a part of me has been taken away
Then starting my YouTube series

Ola Entertainment Blog: Who is your role mode?

Olufeko Gloria: I have so many
Amanda Dara
Tomike Adeoye
Ik Osakioduwa
Daniel Akpata
Olive Emodi
Veronica Dan Ikpoyi

Ola Entertainment Blog: Your advice to the youth out there

Olufeko Gloria: Stay true to yourself, don’t try to be someone else or something you are not
Don’t do it because everyone’s doing it
Do it because you want to do it
